DVI Cables: What is DVI-I?

DVI-I cables use an integrated form of the DVI standard that incorporates both the use of digital and analog signals. That’s the short definition at least. It works well in instances where both digital and analog are needed. Some of the accessories associated with DVI-I cables are essential and often times a lifesaver depending on what purposes you are trying to serve and what equipment you may have. Here are a few items related to DVI-I that may suit your interests, needs or both.

With DVI-I you can take digital video the next level. Extension cables allow for this to happen in event that you have to go beyond signal lengths. Many times these extensions can allow for a strengthened DVI-I signal of nearly double. Not bad for what some people may call an “extension”.

A DVI-I extender will lengthen any industry manufactured DVI cable. The connectors on these cables which are duel bandwith will deliver high quality picture with the extension of signal. Remember though while strength amongst devices varies a DVI signal is only known to work appropriately at a length of up to 16 feet.

A DVI-I extender is male-to-female type, on each end you’ll appropriately have DVI-I connectors. The DVI-I cable extension is the most flexible as far as equipment versatility goes. DVI-I can link DVI-A to DVI-I. Other connections that are compatible are: DVI-D to DVI-I, DVI-A to DVI-A, DVI-D to DVI-D. However, the extender will not allow for digital (DVI-D) to analog connectivity (DVI-A).

Another valuable accessory for your DVI-I cable is a panel-mount extension. These allow for areas that are cramped for room but you still require having your cable length extended. It’s more than perfect for setting up a DVI port to any wall mount or face plate accessory.

The design of its connector allows for minimal difficulty if any at all when installing the female end to a DVI port’s cutout. The wall mount is easily installed via the connector’s mounting screws. This allows for easy use of whatever source of video you’re connected to. This could range from a computer monitor, projection screen or flat-screen television. DVI face plates are specially designed for your wall-mount extension.

The connection configuration for the mount extension is male to female dual link. DVI-I ports are appropriately on each end of the extender. To save on the chance for disorder the female connector is without a backing.

The DVI-I connection ports on the cable extender make it very easy for use with whatever equipment you need to us it on. DVI-I technology can link any two devices that are analog together. It can also allow connection between two digital devices. The connection type doesn’t matter. Like the regular cable extensions digital to analog compatibility is non existent.

Another reliable DVI-I cable related accessory is the DVI-I Dual Link Digital/Analog cable. Its claim to fame is being able to support both digital and analog signals. It is one of the best DVI cables in its category. It provides dual link bandwith which enables a state of the art picture quality and it also is one of the best in terms of compatibility with other related devices.

It can transmit both an analog signal, digital signal or integrated signal which confirms the previously mentioned statement in regards to its compatibility. Unfortunately it can’t be used for DVI-A to DVI-D signal transmission or DVI-D to DVI-A. This cable can not be used to carry a signal from a DVI-A to DVI-D, or vice versa.

Hopefully that answers your questions about DVI-I, thanks for reading!
